Nicol Destroys Lions

Bayswater City responded to their home loss to Perth SC by smashing Stirling Lions 6-1 at Frank Drago Reserve.

The hosts wanted to bounce back after going down 2-1 to the champions in a fiesty encounter. And despite coach Chris Coyne watching from the stands, it didn’t take long for Bayswater to go ahead. A couple of early corners were followed by a goal after only five minutes when Giordano Colli slotted home an easy finish with Lions keeper Daniel Marques stranded.

The provider of that goal, Darryl Nicol, scored the next. His electrifying pace again caused the Lions defence to have kittens as he got goalside and scored from the edge of the area on 18 minutes. Five minutes later his pace again caused the Lions defenders headaches and he was brought down on the edge of the area. The resulting free kick was lashed past the keeper by Nicol.

Stirling had no answers and were 4-0 down on 38 minutes. Gordon Smith was put through on goal with Marques hesitating. The keeper then brought down Smith in the box and a penalty was given along with a yellow card. The penalty was put away for Nicol who claimed the hattrick.

In the second half Stirling tried to rally and pulled one back with Sean McManus set up by Dhuors Choi. This was the only highlight for the visitors, though, with City scoring two more with some wonderful skill. Smith had his goal on 78 while Colli completed a brace when he was again set up by Nicol, who burst down the left and squared the ball.

A massive statement from Bayswater to keep in touch with the top half of the table while Stirling remain anchored to the bottom of the table.
