Gustavo grabs the glory for Baysie

Bayswater City need just a point from their final match of the season to book a spot in the Top Four Cup following their 2-1 win against Perth Glory.

Chris Coyne’s side will host Cockburn City at Frank Drago Reserve on Saturday knowing their superior goal difference is too much for fifth-place Balcatta to overturn.

Two first half goals from Gustavo Giron Marulanda, which sandwiched Daniel Walsh’s equaliser, were enough for Baysie to defeat Glory at E&D Litis Stadium.

The opener on 14 minutes was a goal Nicolas Speca won’t want to see again. The Glory keeper came charging out as Marulanda raced on to a well-weighted pass from Daryl Nicol, but was a split-second too late and was stranded as the Colombian bravely lobbed the ball into the empty goal.

Glory’s leveller on 25 minutes came via a retaken corner from Trent Ostler. Keeper Devon Lindemann came to punch but, like Specca perviously, didn’t get there and captain Daniel Walsh headed in.

Bayswater’s winner in the 40th minute was the result of a mistake by Glory defender Nicholas Walsh. Nicol nipped in and got the ball to Marulanda who showed some nifty footwork before shooting home.

It has been a hit-and-miss season for Bayswater and they will relish another crack at picking up silverware. While they have been off the pace throughout the league campaign, they have reached two cup finals but finished empty-handed. They also made the national FFA Cup Round of 32 before being well beaten.
