Balcatta rally to down Bayswater

A stirring performance from Balcatta has seen them rally to come from behind and beat Bayswater City 2-1 in a gritty NPL WA encounter at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

Despite going a goal down early in the second half courtesy of Bayswater captain Trent Kay’s headed effort, Balcatta refused to lie down and scored twice to pick up all three points and their second win of the season.

Bayswater may have been left feeling a little hard done by with the result after controlling the majority of possession and having the lion’s share of the chances.

A stoic defensive effort from Balcatta saw the two teams head into the break goalless, but Bayswater registered 55 minutes in – Daryl Nicol’s corner floating dangerously inside the area before it was eventually bundled in by Kay.

Some tired legs and gritty determination from the home side then saw the game open up. Carmelo Giuffre equalised for Balcatta when his shot following a corner took a deflection that carried it beyond Bayswater goalkeeper Devon Spence.

Ten minutes later and Balcatta took the lead through a Gavin Knight penalty after referee Matthew Southern had spotted there was a handball which blocked Knight’s original free kick.

The result handed Bayswater their first loss of the season ahead of a home encounter with Sorrento next weekend, while Balcatta are also at home, this time against Cockburn City.
