Rockingham rally to reel in Bayswater

Rockingham City produced a rousing second half performance to claim a 2-2 draw against Bayswater City in Saturday’s National Premier Leagues WA fixture at SafeRad stadium.

The visitors had a taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half.

Gordon Smith claimed the first when he powered his way through into the penalty area and finished with aplomb.

The second came through Daryl Nicol, who rose highest to nod in Jason Mirco’s far post cross.

Rockingham coach Cam Lord was forced into some half-time changes which seemed to spur his side forward and lift the raucous crowd.

Harry Collins, just 21, solidified Rockingham’s defence while proving an outlet on the break and Ryan Kennedy added extra steel to the Rockingham midfield as Bayswater seemed content with their two-goal lead.

Rockingham clawed a goal back when a mix-up between Adam Harris and keeper Devon Spence left the latter stranded outside the penalty area with Riley Van Dieken pounce.

Rockingham pushed forward for an equaliser, giving Bayswater a couple of half chances to secure the points.

However Smith and Ryan Pearson were unable to cash in and with eight minutes left Rockingham got a deserved equaliser when Jason Pottier found James Harmer, who slotted past Spence to seal a deserved draw for the home team.
