PS4 National Premier Leagues WA leaders Bayswater City blew away Sorrento with an emphatic 5-0 rout in wet and windy conditions at Frank Drago Reserve.

Danny Dixon and David Heagney helped themselves to two goals apiece after Brian Farrell had opened the scoring as City made light work of a visiting side struggling to find any consistency so far this season.

Bayswater coach Chris Coyne acknowledged his side scored at the right times, as Dixon made it 2-0 right before the break, and then Heagney add the third six minutes after the re-start.

“I think first half was an even contest, we changed from a diamond to three in midfield for the second half and I think we dominated and we could even have had a couple more.”

Coyne admitted that the course of the game could have changed had Jason Mirco netted just minutes before Farrell’s opener, but stopper Devon Spence stood tall to push out the close-range header.

“Goals change games, it could have been a different story but that’s why you have a good goalkeeper. Apart from that though he hasn’t had a lot to do,” he added.

Sorrento coach Jamie Harnwell was disappointed his side couldn’t continue their recent improved form.

“We didn’t turn up today. Bayswater dominated in every department and deserved to win quite comfortably,” he said.

“If we’d scored early it might have made a bit of a difference and given the boys a boost, but that’s been a challenge this season – putting the ball in the net.

“There’s no point ranting and raving. I’ve asked them to have a look at themselves and to make sure this doesn’t happen again this season.”

The Gulls were left to rue a couple of wasted early openings as Farrell finished off a flowing City move with a crisp low finish across goal on 15 minutes.

Sorrento had chances to level, as Mirco headed wide, and Thomas Boss saw Spence push over a shot from 20 metres.

But Bayswater went into the break with a two-goal cushion thanks to great work down the left by Bor Bor Sam, on as a sub for the injured Farrell, before squaring for Dixon who side-footed past James Morgan.

Any hopes the visitors had of a second half fight back were dashed six minutes after the break, as Sam’s cross was deflected onto the post with Heagney lurking to pounce on the rebound.

And as the hour mark approached, Dixon grabbed his second with a fine shot off the outside of the boot, which found the net via the post.

The scoring was completed in the 81st minute as Heagney was felled in the box before stepping up to send Morgan the wrong way from the spot.

It could have been worse for Sorrento had Morgan not been alert to deny Declan Hargreaves and Sam in the dying moments.
