Last Minute Hetherington Goal claims three vital points for Bayswater Ladies

ROUND 10

Bayswater City SC v Perth Royals SC Women’s Div 4

JA Lee Reserve, Lathlain 1PM

29th June 2014

Bayswater continued their unbeaten run with a late goal in the final minute of the game to snatch the three points against Perth Royals SC at JA Lee Reserve.

After last week’s great result Bayswater were full of confidence. However they were missing a few key players through injury, and the Royals could sense an upset was on the cards.

Bayswater found themselves in a position to take the lead in the 27th minute, when an untimely foul from the Royals defender saw the referee given no choice but to award the penalty kick.

Leading goal scorer Erinn Hetherington stepped up to the spot but was unsuccessful in her attempt.

When the referee blew the half-time whistle, both teams were locked at 0-0.

The second half saw more of the same from both sides. The Bayswater ladies were struggling to find the back of the net on much to the frustration of the coach.

Both Hetherington and Laura Darrie had great opportunities to score, and were unlucky not to see the back of the net.

It was turning out to be a frustrating day all round. In the final few minutes Bayswater Coach Dario Pellicciotti made a decisive tactical move designed to put as much pressure on the opposition in the hope of securing the three points.

The move proved a masterstroke as in the last minute of injury time. Darrie played an inch perfect ball to  Hetherington who made a fantastic run, beating a few defenders on the right wing before scoring a great goal to pinch the three points from the third placed Perth Royals.

It was a huge result as it keeps the team in equal top spot with a game in hand.

A special mention has to given to goalkeeper Rocky Thomson for keeping another clean sheet as well as Amanda Woodward for receiving the best player award.

Well done Bayswater ladies and coach Dario Pellicciotti.
